Learners at Carleton Jones evacuated over unsafe building

An investigation last week showed various large cracks in this middle building. In several places, the ceilings are also loose. Metal braces have been placed to prop up the roof next to the staircases on two floors. This building has been cordoned off and the learners were sent home.
The management held a meeting with the parents on Monday night.Only matriculants went back to school after the incident.
Parents and teachers have been complaining to the department for years about the school building not being safe.
The fact that there has been a sinkhole on another part of the terrain makes matters worse.
The spokesperson of the Gauteng Department of Education, Mr Steve Mabona, has not yet replied to questions.
