Voters who will be unable to visit their voting stations to cast their ballots on 8 May, have another week to apply for a special vote. Applications for special votes for the National and Provincial Elections opened last Thursday and close at 17:00 next Thursday, 18 April. Election Day is Wednesday 8 May, with special votes being cast on the two previous days. In the case of home visits, you may apply if you are physically infirm, disabled or pregnant, and cannot travel to your voting station. If your application is approved by the IEC, you will then cast a special vote at your retirement village or private home on 6 or 7 May. Home visits are only for severely disabled people who cannot leave their homes. If people are out when election officials call, the team will not be able to return. If you are fit to visit your voting station but will be on election duty or out of town on 8 May, you may visit your voting station on the two previous days. As with applications for home visits, the IEC must approve them by 17:00 on 18 April. Applications for special votes can be made to the IEC in three ways:
* Complete the prescribed form and submit it to the IEC.
* Apply online at https://www.elections.org.za/IECOnline/special-vote-online-
application.
* SMS your ID number to 32249.
For a home visit, you must either complete the form, or apply online.
