The Parys SPCA branch was temporarily closed earlier this week and all animals removed from the premises.
This after NSPCA Inspectors, during a routine inspection at the Parys SPCA, had found a puppy with a broken leg kept in one of the kennels.
It is claimed that the puppy had been left untreated and in pain.
The puppy was apparently in such a state that the veterinarian decided euthanasia was the best way to end her suffering, was said.

The puppy’s pelvis was also broken and she had a wound on her belly of about 8cm in diameter.
According to a post yesterday, 10 January, on the SPCAs South Africa Facebook page, staff at Parys SPCA will be suspended and face disciplinary action on charges of animal cruelty.
The Committee of the Parys SPCA has also since been removed and the NSPCA has assumed control over the Society.
The NSPCA today said that currently there are staff that were not implicated in the matter, available and working at the Parys SPCA as usual.
The NSPCA Society Liaison Unit says they experienced ongoing problems with the Parys SPCA since October 2018.
According to the NSPCA, their Inspectors, in unexpected inspections at the Parys SPCA, also recently found a female dog with a Transmissible Venereal Tumour (commonly known as TVT) protruding from her vagina. This dog was also allegedly left untreated, suffering for 3 months, was said.
All the remaining animals were taken in by neighbouring SPCAs on Thursday, for rehoming.
The public was asked to direct queries related to the Parys SPCA directly to the National SPCA office.
Persons interested in serving on the Committee are asked to send a short 1 page CV to: liaison2@nspca.co.za
Donors that support the Society is asked to only make donations via EFT / Internet Banking to the Parys SPCA’s bank account with the following details:
Name: Parys SPCA
Bank Name: Standard Bank
Account number: 04 094 7882
Branch Code: 055736
The NSPCA said that they “will strive for justice for these animals who did not have families or homes, but still had the right to medical care and humane treatment. Also that they will not tolerate any cruelty, no matter the organisation or individual involved.”
Gazette has requested comment from the Parys SPCA Council whereby it was said that no comment can be given as the case is sub judicae.
When the Parys SPCA was called on Friday, it was confirmed that the office is temporarily closed and that a National Inspector was on his way. In case of an emergency Insp Zama Mabena can be contacted on 079 500 7415.
(Note that the Societies are not branches of the NSPCA. SPCA’s operate autonomously and the NSPCA administer the SPCA Act 169 of 1993 and ensure compliance in terms of this Act).
