In memory of Bokkie Sacks

It is with deep sadness that the Parys community bids farewell to Bokkie Sacks.

He was born in Parys in 1922, and attended the school with his brothers. Later, he and his youngest brother, Gerald, took over the legendary, Sacks Brothers store in Kort Street from their father.
While his brother managed the hardware side of the store, Bokkie ran the software and drapery side. Both their wives were also involved in the business.
He was an active member of the Jewish community and was, on many occasions, the chairperson of the Parys Hebrew Congrega-tion.
He was married to Gerty (Assin) and they had two children, Wayne and Janice. They lived in President Brand Road for many years.
Later, when Gerty became ill, they left their beloved Parys and relocated to Johannesburg. Gerty died in 2002 and Bokkie remained in Johannesburg, close to his daughter Janice. For many years, she was his constant companion.
He died peacefully at the age of 95, surrounded by his family.
He will be remembered with great affection for his wonderful sense of humour, happy disposition, kind nature and creative ability.
