Rock art plea to save the yellowfish

An incredible work of art – highlighting the fight to save the indigenous yellowfish in light of the recent fish kills caused by massive sewerage spillage upstream in the Vaal River.
Parys artist, Deon Terblanche, who was also the brain behind the town’s first arts festival, created this amazing rock and wire art, suspended underneath the Potch-bridge over the Vaal River.

In his own words, Deon says one of the reasons he moved to Parys was his love for fly fishing. To him and many others, the Vaal River is close to the heart.
The damage the sewerage spillage has caused in the river made him think of ideas to create awareness of what is happening. The result was the rock image of the yellowfish, which can be seen hanging from the Potch bridge at Egweni in Van Coller Street. This is the venue of the well-known Hartelus market, which attracts a number of visitors every month.

You will be amazed at this piece of art, pleading to us to save what was given to us for generations to come. Die art work measures 7m x 1,5m, and is made out of pink granite rock pieces.
Deon plans more artwork at the bridge and those interested in becoming involved in the project can contact him on 083 338 4234.
