In the past months Ster received a number of reports of unsuspecting motorists selling their cars online and were lured to the Vaal Triangle where they faced armed kidnapping, extortion and severe beatings. In one of the latest incidents Mrs Tasha de Beer told how her husband Marcel was kidnapped and put through a hair-raising ordeal.
“They lure you to Vereeniging or Vanderbijlpark for a cash deposit by a Afrikaans speaking Namibian guy. When you meet face-to-face they will kidnap you at gun point, take you to a house in Sebokeng where “police” will burst in and pretend that it’s a drug/diamond raid. They will hold you while they demand ransom. This is a syndicate operating in Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark. We were lucky, my husband managed to get away and opened a case at the police.”
