Suspects mugged three people in Ext.4 in the early hours of Monday, 15 June.
While the victims were stabbed and beaten up to the point that they could not see anymore, residents in the area reported that one of the men was killed and the woman raped. Both were taken to the hospital by ambulance. The Khutsong police, however, told the Herald that a case of assault had been opened and that no one had been murdered or raped.
The Khutsong community has identified this area at Ext.4, which was supposed to be developed as sports grounds, as a danger zone where many crimes have been committed. Many have told the Herald about their bad experiences around the open space near the soccer grounds.
Residents do not feel safe anymore and are terrified of the gangsters as violent crimes continue to escalate in the township.
