Khutsong rocks with live music event

All Khutsong music lovers had an opportunity to experience the power of live music for free in the afternoon of Sunday 5 April.

The live music event at Lahliwe Pub in Ext.4 was part of a joint South African/Norwegian live music development project. It was organised by Concerts SA as a way of developing new audiences and appreciation for live music as well as showcasing young and fresh SA talent on new platforms. Concerts SA worked in partnership with the Unlearn Agency to conduct the event and bring live music to the area of Khutsong.

The talented Masello Motana performed her piece “Ntyilo Ntyilo”, which critics have dubbed “a local museum that archives the township experience through music”. She was joined on the vocals by Mholi Mngoma, with Kegorogile Makgatle on drums, Senzo Nxumalo on bass, Tokoloho Mokoena on guitar and Sibusiso Dlamini on keys.

Concerts SA is housed under the auspices of the Stakeholder Hub within the SAMRO Foundation. The project receives financial, administrative and technical support from the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, SAMRO and Concerts Norway. It is an initiative to support the growth of the live music sector in SA through research, skills development and competence building. In addition, through its work with venues and promoters, it also aims to develop regular, sustainable performance platforms.

This initiative endeavours to develop an interest in, and appreciation of, live music by showcasing musical performances and conducting workshops at schools.
