Four parties contest Ward 12 in by-election

Ward 12 by-election to be held next Wednesday, 5 September.

Four political parties are taking part in the Ngwathe Town Council’s Ward 12 by-election to be held next Wednesday, 5 September. The by-election follows former DA councillor Saal de Jager’s resignation due to his increasing business commitments.
The candidates are Mr Andries Vrey of the DA, Ms Mantsemane Peggy Non-yana of the ANC, Cllr Phillip van der Merwe of the Freedom Front Plus, and Mr Lehlohonolo Thomas Matsobane of the EFF. There are about 4 400 registered voters in Ward 12, which covers much of Parys and a small section of Tumahole. The three voting stations are at the Parys Library, the Parys Town Hall and AME St Leornard Church. The stations will open at 07:00 and close at 21:00.
Voters must vote at the station where they are registered and are reminded to take their ID book or smart card along.
Ill or absent voters who have applied for and been granted special votes will be able to cast their ballots on Tuesday, 4 September, between 08:00 and 17:00. This applies to both home and station visits.
