Voters are reminded that all voting stations will be open between 08:00 and 17:00 this weekend (10 and 11 March) so that voters’ rolls can be updated for the 2019 elections.
Voters’ rolls must contain the correct address of every voter to enable them to vote.
IEC staff will be on duty to register new voters, re-register voters who have moved and to obtain address details from registered voters whose addresses are missing or wrong.
‘It is important that voters register at the correct voting station,’ says the DA councillor, Shirley Vermaak, who serves on the IEC’s liaison committee, ‘Don’t forget to take your bar-coded ID book, smart card ID, or temporary ID certificate.’
Ward 12 is the largest ward in Parys and has three voting stations – the Town Hall and library and the AME St Leonard Church in Tumahole. It extends more or less from Sally Martin Park to Unie Street.
‘As a rough guide, people living north of Schilbach Street have to register at the Town Hall and those on the southern side, at the library,’ says Ward 12 councillor Saal de Jager.
Residents of the area east of Sally Martin Park, including Oudewerf and the Golf     Island, are in Ward 7 and should register at the temporary voting station opposite the Parys Hospital. Residents of the area bordered by End Street and Third Avenue are in Ward 13, with their voting station at the Schonkenville Hall.  Ward 14’s voting station is the Rotary Club in Rotary Street. Residents of the area on the northern side of Breë Street – from Noorder Street in Saligna and Vaal de Grace and on farms on the way to Vredefort – should register there.  Ward 15’s voting station is the NG Kerk Wes and is mainly for voters living on the southern side of Breë Street, between Noorder and Allenby Streets, and Pistoriusrust.
