Tenor Stéfan Louw is back in his hometown, Parys, after performing in Europe for almost a year, announcing the release of his second album, Lirico – a collection of lyric tenor  arias.
Louw’s career took off in 1998 after receiving the FNB Vita Award for Most Promising Newcomer for his role as Beppe in I Pagliacci at the Pretoria State Theatre. His first album, Reflections, was released in 2010.
‘Because I focus my career on being a performing artist and not a recording artist, it was difficult to find time to spend in the recording studio,’ Louw says. ‘When I returned from Europe mid-November last year I realised that it is the perfect opportunity to take some time “off” to record my album before I start rehearsals for La Traviata in December.’
Lirico is a collection of lyric tenor arias from operas composed between 1756 and 1924. It includes the works of composers like Mozart, Donizetti, Von Flotow, Verdi, Gounod, and Puccini. Louw, who made his opera directing debut in 2015 with Big Wig Opera’s production of L’elisir d’amore, demonstrates his skill as a producer with this album which is exclusively available as digital album downloaded in high-quality mp3 format.
In the past 20 years, Louw has performed leading roles in more than 30 operas in South Africa, the United States of America, and Europe and has sung more than 500 performances. He will be heard as Don José in Sempre Opera’s production of Carmen in May 2018.
Upon his return, Louw has re-opened his voice studio at his residence in Third Avenue, Parys where he offers singing lessons.
