Kruis Street connecting Parys and Tumahole has new signboards. The street has been renamed to Father Balink Street and officially opened on Sunday, 26th November.
Father Balink Street runs runs from the Mimosa Gardens, pass the licencing department, turning right in Brown Street and then upwards pass the Partuma Hotel, the Catholic Church, the Motsepidi Hall and ending high up in Tumahole.
The opening of Father Balink Street was undertaken as a dedication ceremony by Father Ephraim Odhiambo of the Roman Catholic Church, attended by many other dignitaries, including the Premier, Dr Ace Magashule, the MEC, Sam Mashinini, the Mayor, Cllr Joey Mochela, Dr Almud Pollmeier, Carsten Daus (who were part of the original sponsoring and founding organisation, Suedafrika-Hilfe e.V.) and other members of the community, including Iris Andrew, the current manager of the Lewis Balink Foundation.
The photo below shows the memorial stone at the church which is a permanent legacy of this new important and historical street, remembering the priest fighting for justice and peace and caring for the poor and people affected by HIV and AIDS.
