On 25 October 2002, the first test match was contested between South Africa and Bangladesh at Senwes Park which the Proteas won by an innings and 160 runs.

Now, 15 years later, the second test match between the two nations in North West Cricket’s dignified history will take place at the same venue in a fortnight’s time.

From 28 September to 2 October 2017, South Africa and Bangladesh meet with two totally different   generations of players, ready to either inspire Protea Fire or show the Tigers’ Teeth in the first Sunfoil Test match between the two.

Potchefstroomers are urged to attend this test match in their droves as some of the world’s best players will be in action. The likes of Faf du Plessis, Hashim Amla, Mushfiqur Rahim and Tamin Iqbal are just a few names to  grace the home of North West Cricket in their test whites.

An intriguing contest awaits if one looks at the form of both teams heading into the encounter. Bangladesh recently drew a test series 1–1 with Australia and, in the process, achieved their first ever test victory over the Aussies on   home soil.

Bangladesh is shaping into a formidable test team and they cannot be taken lightly – although they will be tested on the seam-friendly wickets in SA.

South Africa needs to regain their pride after a test series defeat in England and will look to start off the SA cricket season on a high note with a victory in Potch, just as the SA team of 2002 did when Jacques Kallis, Shaun Pollock and Makhaya Ntini put in match-winning performances.

Another intriguing aspect will be how the newly-appointed coach, Ottis Gibson, will stamp his authority in his first test match in charge. This could be the start of big things and the Proteas’ performance will go a long way towards fans’ and critics’ approval of Gibson as the new coach.

The proof will be on the pitch come 28 September.
