Rina and Hennie de Klerk are leading an outing to Deelfontein in the Vredefort Dome on Saturday 13 May 2017. Gerhard Benade is the owner and the cost is R50 per person for day visitors.
Rina and Hennie send this information and they invite anyone interested in Bird Watching to join in the fun!
We will meet at 07h30 at the SASOL garage in Parys, number 40 Breë Street. The Sasol Garage is the one on the left hand side (South side) in Breë Street, on the road that leads to Vredefort (just after the robot where you would turn right if you wanted to go to cross the river and go to Potchefstroom).
You can find information on Deelfontein on their website. The road we will follow from the Sasol garage in Parys is the following: In Parys follow the signposts for Vredefort. About 3 km outside Parys, turn right to Schoemansdrif. After a further 3 km, turn left. After about 4km, continue straight over the crossing on a gravel road. After a further 8 km, turn right to Reitzburg. Exactly 2 km further you will find the turnoff marked “Deelfontein, Gerhard Benade” on the right. This is 100m beyond the gate marked “Deelfontein, Greeff Boerdery and 100m before a white house near the road with a gate marked “Deelfontein”. Enter at the gatewith the YELLOW sign. After 500 m, there is another gate. Follow the signage. The guest houses and mountain bike trailhead are on the left. The art retreat, observatory, rondavel and workshopare 400 m further. For the bush camp, continue for 1 km until the road forks. Keep left. The campsite is 200 m further. Please close all gates!
We will park at the bush camp and after our walk have a picnic at the bush camp. Please bring a picnic lunch.

Global Big Day is on Saturday 13 May 2017 when bird species are counted throughout the world. I am trying to find out how we, as members of the Vaal Bird Club, can participate. If anybody has done it before, please advise me. We can discuss it at the club meeting.
