Small businesses object to ‘new entrants’

Small Businesses fight for change in eNdumeni

A peaceful march was held in Dundee when three aggrieved organisations took to the streets to voice their concern about issues that have been affecting their businesses for a ‘very long time.’ The three organisations, Ziphilise Trading Association, Sithembile Small business and the Dundee Taxi Association handed their memorandum to the Endumeni Mayor, Thulane Mahaye who was accompanied by the Endumeni Speaker, Sduduzo Mdluli.

Among other things, the marchers were complaining about, was the threat leading to the destruction of small businesses by the ‘new entrants’ (foreigners). They feel that “foreigners who come to the country and open tuck shops in the township are taking our jobs and they are not contributing anything into the economy of Dundee.” Mr P Nyawo Secretary of Ziphilise Trading Association urged the municipality to set up a committee which will be involved in the inspection of businesses owned by ‘new entrants’. The municipality was given 10 days to respond to their grievances.

Your Thoughts?

We have seen and heard television and radio stations report about xenophobic attacks in the country, where innocent people greatly suffer, others lose their lives. The above mentioned marchers decided to conduct a peaceful march to voice their grievances. What do you think of this and do you think that the laws in our constitution are firm enough to control the way business is  operated in the country? And what do you think should be done to make all parties happy?
