Reshma Bedasie lodged her first complaint with the Newcastle Municipality in August last year and followed up more times than she can remember.

Nonetheless, she has not dared crack a window open for months in order to insulate herself and her family from the intolerable stink while she waits for the municipality to respond. She admits, however, she is not holding her breath.

In August last year, the flats facing the back of the Bedasie residence allegedly developed a sewer problem. This was tended to but at the same time, according to Bedasie, her problems began when all her drains clogged-up.

Sewer can be seen in all her outside drains, inside basins and toilets, it even seeps through the cement driveway and flows freely into the street.

The municipality are allegedly aware of the problem as municipal workers visited the home last year. They simply left with the message, “It is a problem and we will come back to sort it out,” and they never returned until last week when they again left with having no solution according to Bedasie.
