DUNDEE KZN: What groceries cost in the 80’s

Here's what you could get for R97 in the 80's

In the 80’s everything was simple and the music was good. Songs like, Every Breath You Take from The Police and Girls Just Want To Have Fun by Cyndi Lauper were chart toppers. Newspapers were filled with specials on groceries, cars, furniture and take out food.

For only R97,52 you can get the shopping list above.

The prices of these items were shocking to the average person in today’s economy.   Work leaped off of every vacancy page in all the newspapers.

Property was affordable and an asset to have with the prices in the paper ranging from R67 500 for a four bedroom to R185 000 for a four bedroom double story depending on the location of your property that would determine your price.

And now you could end up paying R55 for a butternut… only to see the price tumble to R10  (different butternut but same size) the following week in the supermarket, so shop wisely…
