NEWCASTLE: Go back in time with exclusive drive-in movie screening

The drive-in movie will be screened this evening (September 17) at Ferrum High School.

Now in its 41st year, the Durban International Film Festival (DIFF) has planned a series of screenings across KwaZulu-Natal to celebrate this milestone, by embracing this year’s theme of ‘Shifting Paradigms’.

Taking a page out of an old playbook, DIFF is recreating the nostalgia of the bygone drive-in movie experience and Newcastle was identified as one of the host venues for a screening.

What’s showing and where can you watch it?

The DIFF screening in Newcastle will take place at Ferrum High School on September 17 – guests must arrive between 5.30pm and 6pm ahead of the welcoming at 6.15pm. The film will be screened at 6.30pm sharp. Tickets for the drive-in screenings are available on Quicket for R100 per car, max of four to a car.

The movie that will be screened is Kedibone (Sotho; seen it all), directed by Thomas Gumede – the film is in English, Sotho and Zulu with English subtitles.

What is the film about?

The film is a coming-of-age feature film about an exotically beautiful Sotho girl by the name of Kedibone Manamela, born and raised in Orlando East, Soweto who chooses to live her early youth in the fast lane. Veiled from her loyal childhood boyfriend’s eyes, she bounces between being a good girl in the township and the ‘It girl’ on the high end of Johannesburg streets.

A dark threat looms over the day when news of Kedibone’s escapades reaches the young man. The film is 100 minutes long.
