The James Bond films have reached a key milestone in its franchise with the release of the 25th 007 film, ‘No Time to Die’. Celebrating this feat, British automaker Aston Martin and Mr Bond’s preferred marque has introduced two exclusive 007 special editions which are inspired by the vehicles that feature in the Metro Goldwyn Mayer Studios film which is planned to be released in November 2020.

While the two special edition models take form in Vantage and DBS Superleggera guise, the film promise to feature four iconic Aston Martin sports cars: the legendary DB5; the classic Aston Martin V8; the brand’s latest super GT, DBS Superleggera; and the exceptional Aston Martin Valhalla. The two special and limited editions have been designed and crafted by the experts in Aston Martin’s bespoke division: Q by Aston Martin. The Q by Aston Martin service offers customers the opportunity to order bespoke and personalized vehicle directly from Aston Martin and is responsible for limited and special editions the brand has to offer.

Aston Martin Vantage 007 Edition

Upfront of the Vantage 007 Edition customers might recognize the bespoke mesh grille with chrome bezel, first seen on the Aston Martin V8 Vantage seen in the 1987 film ‘Daylights’. At the rear features a dashed yellow diffuser inspired by the hazard stripes on the film car’s rockets. Furthermore, Aston Martin also made available the option to have the vehicle specified with limited-edition ski’s and ski rack – referencing the ‘winterised’ V8 car from the film ‘Daylights’. The limited Vantage 007 Edition comes finished in authentic Cumberland Grey.

The interior comes fitted with obsidian black leather and dark chrome and feature 007 brandings applied on the centre console. Referencing the film ‘The Living Daylights’, the sun visors are embellished with an embroidered radio station frequency – 96.60 (FM), the frequency Russian police frequency 007 used to escape in the film. Other references include unique heritage fluting on the seats as well as ‘f-holes’ on the carbon fibre seatbacks noting the cello chase scene in the film.

The British carmaker also affords owners the opportunity to specify a laser-etched gadget plaque which references rocket motor, missiles, lasers, a targeting display and ski outriggers as found on the movie car. The Vantage 007 Edition which is limited to 100 units globally is available with a manual or automatic transmission with the automatic adding paddle shift gear levers with crosshairs etched onto it alluding to the missile guidance system seen in the film.

“Creating a 007 Edition is always an exciting challenge as we work to develop and style a car that embodies the legend of James Bond. It is an honour to apply carefully judged 007-inspired styling to our sports cars, which gives our customers the opportunity to own a unique piece of both cinematic and automotive history,” Marek Reichman, Vice-President and Chief Creative Officer, Aston Martin.

Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 007 Edition

Even more exclusive is the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 007 Edition strictly limited to just 25 units. The special edition will not only have the same specifications as the one in the film but retains the powerful 5.2-litre V12 twin-turbocharged engine producing 526 kW and 900 N.m of torque. The DBS Superleggera 007 Edition comes finished in a special Ceramic Grey exterior paint and is contrasted by the roof, mirror caps, splitter, diffuser and rear Aeroblade II finished in black tinted carbon fibre. Another notable addition to the 007 Edition is the Gloss Black diamond-turned Y-Spoke 21-inch wheels. Further giving a reference is the chrome with a black enamel infill 007 fender embellishment.  The rear spoiler also sees Stainless Steel Silver 007 foil garnishing.

Contrasted by red detailing on the outline of the seats, the interior takes form as a dark, leather-clad environment. Here one will notice the 007 brandings on the door cards, armrest buckle badge and on the rear sub-woofer cover. Further noting its exclusivity is a sill plaque which indicates that it is one of just 25 DBS Superleggera 007 Editions. Aston Martin plans to deliver the first units in the first quarter of 2021. At the time of writing this article, the recommended retail price converted from British Pound to South African Rands results in the Aston Martin DBS Superleggera 007 Edition costing R6 367 618,67 and the Vantage 007 Edition, R3 674 174.74 without import duties or taxes.
