Free weekly parkrun:
Work out on a Saturday morning in a beautiful place, while meeting new people. The Grey Goose parkrun is a free, weekly and volunteer-led five kilometer run/walk which takes place from 8am, at the Grey Goose Game Lodge. Contact Wonda Wilson on 082 572 3336 for details.

Old Hooters Club
February 22 – The Old Hooters Club is holding a sealed odo rally, starting at 2pm from the clubhouse. The distance is approximately 100kms in an around Newcastle, and the time taken will be around two hours. The event is very simple and suitable for beginners, and all you need is a cell phone with a clock, a clipboard and a pen. All are welcome. The entry fee is R20, and the event will end with a bring and braai – fires and salads will be provided. The clubhouse is situated at the tennis pavillion at the Old Iscor Club (Hollywood Casino). Battlefields Marathon:
February 29 – Newcastle Harriers is hosting the annual Battlefields Marathon, which is a Comrades Marathon qualifier. This will take place on February 29. The event starts at 6am from Huttenpark Primary School. You can enter either the 10km, 21km or 42km. For pre-entries, book online at newcastleharriers.co.za.

The Class of 2003 Reunion:
June 13 – All past pupils of Lincoln Heights Secondary School, Newcastle High School, St Oswald’s Secondary School and Ferrum High School are invited to ‘The Class of 2003 Reunion’, set to take place on June 13. For those interested in attending, the cost is R250 per person, which covers meals, soft drinks and other expenses. The cut off date for bookings and payment is at the end of March. Religious

Balvikas classes:
The Sathya Sai Organisation of Newcastle conducts Balvikas classes every Monday from 5.15pm to 6pm at the Sathya Sai School, for children aged six to 15 years. The aim of these classes is to instill the five human values of truth, righteous conduct, peace, love and non-violence in the young minds of children. Hindi classes at SCATS:
Those interested in learning the Hindi language are encouraged to attend classes at the Sat-Chit-Ananda Temple in Fernwood. Aunty Barbie will host classes every Sunday from 10am to 12pm. For details, call 034 312 7875 or Avikar Singh on 084 578 1355.

Hindi classes at Hindi Pracharni Sabha (HPS):
Classes for children and adults who want to learn the Hindi language will begin on February 3. Classes will be held daily in the evenings for all grads. Hindi Bol students will learn oral communication only. Other students are registered and taught by qualified and experienced educators for all grades. These students write the annual National Examination with the Hindi Shiksha Sangh. For more information, call Shamilla Bansipersad on 076 933 0655.

Maha Shivaratri at Paradise Hindu Temple:
February 21 – The annual Maha Shivaratri prayers will be conducted at the temple from 6pm and will conclude at 6am on February 22. Guru Kishan Naidoo will perform the prayers. All are welcome. For more information, call D.M. Naidoo on 034 312 8662.

Maha Shivaratri at Siva Subramanian Temple:
February 19 to 21 – The Maha Shivaratri prayer will be celebrated at the Newcastle Siva Subramanian Temple and the community can look forward to an exciting programme on February 19 and 20. This will include bhajans, dances, and discourses from local artists and organisations. The sacred and divine vigil of Maha Shivaratri will be observed on Friday, February 21 from 6pm until 6am the next morning. All are welcome. Maha Shivaratri at HPS:
February 21 – Maha Shivaratri will be celebrated at the HPS Temple from 6.30pm. All are welcome to attend and participate in the kirtans, bhajans and prayer. For more information, contact Ramesh on 082 225 1190 or Bobby on 082 933 5694.

Ramakrishna Newcastle events:
February 21 – The Ramakrishna Newcastle Sub-Centre will observe Maha Shivaratri, with satsang commencing from 6.30pm, to conclude at midnight.
February 25 – The Sub-Centre will celebrate Sri Ramakrishna Jayanti (Tithi Puja) at the Green Street Ashram from 6.30pm.
The programmes for both functions will comprise of rituals, chanting, bhajans, kirtans, discourses, hawan and aarti. All are welcome to attend. For more information, contact Mrs S. Surjoo on 084 675 1618.
