Local artist aims to share the secrets of his artistic flair

He said his work was inspired by every living thing as well as life itself.

Visual artist, Thomas Thwala (55) from Old Location in Bhekuzulu wants to impart his artistic skills on anyone with interest.
Thwala started painting and sketching in 1986, but only started focusing on art from around 2003.
“It is a talent that God gave me, even though I also did a special course in 1996. My work is fulfilling to me and I would like to share my skills and knowledge with everyone from my community, who has an interest in visual art,” said Thwala.
He said his work was inspired by every living thing as well as life itself.
“I do not have a theme. Whatever comes to mind, I put it into drawing because I do not want to limit myself with a theme.

“When I focus on all the living things and life, I get more life into my work.”
Thwala explained art could also be a source of income for those with an eye for fine details.
“That is why I am inviting even those who are unemployed, to come and learn skills and do their own artwork so they can make money out of it. As long as they are passionate and dedicated, they will make a living out of their talents.”
Over the years, Thwala has put on extensive exhibitions at battlefield events and bazaars, and said he appreciated the generosity of those who had and would help him share skills with others in the community.
Anyone interested in learning visual art or seeking sponsorship can contact Thwala on 078 471 3998.

Thomas Thwala hopes to share his skills with others and help them earn a living.
