Tiara dances her way to the national stage

She wishes to pursue a professional career as a dancer once she matriculates.

For Tiara Neha Govender (13), dancing is more than a pastime; it is a form of expression which allows her to voice her personality through the rhythm of music.

It is this passion which got her recognised on the national stage, where she performed for one of the biggest entertainment houses, Big M Productions, at the City Hall in Durban.

Over the years, she has performed self-choreographed dances at both school and private functions, which in turn had allowed her the opportunity nurture and grow her ability.

“Michael Jackson is my dance inspiration. I would watch him and try to copy his moves,” said Tiara. “My dad however, says I got my talent from him.”

In September last year, after competing at a dance competition, Tiara received positive feedback and was headhunted by renowned doyen, Pinky Mothie, who has been in the movie and entertainment industry for more than 50 years. Tiara then joined a group of six dancers at the Star Academy under the watchful eye of dance instructor, Fiona Pillay.

Being the youngest in the group, Tiara had to learn the choreography in just four sessions before the group performed at the Big M Productions Influential Awards.

“When I’m on stage, I just tell myself I can do it. You always need to believe in yourself and be confident,” she said.

She wishes to pursue a professional career as a dancer once she matriculates. Her parents are her biggest fans as they attend each show, taking videos and cheering her on.

“We are so proud of Tiara and her achievements,” beamed Samantha.
