Smiles in abundance as toy drive makes its mark

Residents of Vryheid had the opportunity to donate new and used toys at two different locations.

The saying is ‘charity starts at home’.
This is exactly where charity started a month ago, when Buks White initiated the Toy Drive, approaching Sign Centre, AbaQulusi Spar
and Vryheid Nissan as sponsors for the drive.
The three sponsors jumped on board without hesitation, and a Nissan vehicle was branded with nonprofit organisations’ logos.
Residents of Vryheid had the opportunity to donate new and used toys at two different locations.
Unfortunately, the donations were not as abundant as the organisers had hoped for, but the community nevertheless did its part and
contributed towards this worthy cause.
On Monday, all participating organisations met at Vryheid Nissan to distribute the toys and share some smiles.
The branded vehicle led the convoy through Vryheid en route to different locations, beginning with Christian Social Services (CMD).
Happy Simelane smiled as she received the bags full of toys, which were offloaded at the offices for distribution.
Child Welfare was the next stop in line and board members, Quentin and Lyann Brown received the generous donation of toys on behalf of the organisation.
The Vryheid Lions Club also donated an abundance of toys towards the drive, and will distribute them to the less fortunate in the
community.
Organisers said this initiative served as a pilot project and the experience gained could only lead to a bigger and better project next year.
