[EDITOR’S NOTE] Will you be supporting the Bokke this weekend?

How do you feel about the power of sport?

Dear Reader,

I will be the first to admit I know very little about rugby.

Living with a rugby fan, and attending Highlanders’ games at the Arbor Park Sports Grounds is about the most exposure I’ve had with the sport in my entire life.

That being said, the pride and elation I felt when the Springboks triumphed over Wales this past weekend was extraordinary.

It reminded me of why, despite all the problems in South Africa, I am proud to be a citizen; sport has a way of uniting a country, against all odds.

This weekend, as the mighty Boks prepare for the ultimate showdown against England, I will be rooting for them to bring the trophy home.

While I may not completely know my scrums from my conversions, I know I will watch the match with hope.

As you gather around your braai fires, local pubs and friend’s homes this weekend, cheering on our national team, know that even if SA doesn’t come back with the win, they have succeeded in unifying our country – even just for a little while.

How do you feel about the power of sport?
