Dear Reader,

After my column last week, where I asked what you loved most about Newcastle, I was overwhelmed with positive messages!

It reminded me once more about the benefits of living in this town, and why so many people either choose to come back, or move here to start families.

One of the most poignant emails I received was from reader, Wayne Kisten. He said the following, which has been shortened slightly:

“It’s another beautiful day in Newcastle. The thing I love most about Newcastle [is that it] has become home. I moved to Newcastle about 5 years ago. I met the love of my life in Johannesburg and moved to Newcastle. The life here is nothing short of AMAZING.

Newcastle has a lot to offer. I have travelled internationally extensively and would not choose to live elsewhere.

The people in Newcastle are fantastic. Whenever I travel to work outside Newcastle, which is often, I find myself looking forward to getting back even before I have left.

The a in the town, with all its issues, is in my opinion positive. Sure, there are lots of things that require change and improvement. I do believe though that the community has the will and power to make positive changes.

All one needs to do is drive to Johannesburg to be grateful that we have no serious traffic issues. The stress levels in NN is low, low, low.

The beautiful full moon and night stars are uninterrupted by the clear smog free skies. The air is crisp and fresh. The water tastes better than in the big cities. The restaurants offer delicious cuisine with lot to offer at affordable prices!
I love my wife. I love my home. I love Newcastle. Thank you for getting me to think about why I love Newcastle.”

This weekend, many homes will be lit up in celebration of the Hindu festival of lights; Deepavali (Diwali). On behalf of the Newcastle Advertiser, happy Deepavali to our Hindu readers!
