Can you recall what happened 5 years ago?
The NKZN Courier is launching a new Throwback Thursday feature, where we look back at the news that was, 5 years ago. Today, we focus on August 1, 2014. While the stories in question didn’t happen particularly on the day in question, they were uploaded onto our site on the Thursday in question.
Here’s some of the news that took place five years ago:
Dundee Secondary Prom: Glitz and Glamour
The school hosted its glitzy Matric Farewell at the Battlefields Country Lodge, with learners dressing to impress. Teachers also dressed up for the occasion as the school paid tribute to the outgoing matriculants in style.
Uelzen bids Mrs Malan farewell
There was another farewell at Uelzen, however this was not a party-like atmosphere. After 21 years serving as a Grade One teacher, Ruth Malan finally put down her chalk. Mrs Malan had over 40 years of teaching to her name when she finally called it quits.
Slipper Day, in aid of the Reach For A Dream Foundation, was celebrated at the Dundee Wimpy, with Courier staff also getting in on the act. Staff took the morning off to make a difference in a different way, while grabbing a bite to eat. Wimpy staff also swapped their shoes for slippers – read the story HERE.
