Dear Reader,

Reader feedback is essential to any community newspaper.

Not only does it highlight areas which need improvement, it also gives us the opportunity to take into consideration your needs, and to work together towards building a better community.

From last week’s feedback, one thing is clear – Newcastle is in trouble, and placing the municipality under administration seems to be the answer to most of our problems.

With the matter being escalated to KZN Legislature and Provincial Parliament by MPL, Dr Imran Keeka, it remains to be seen what will happen. We will keep you posted as the matter unfolds.

This week, thousands across the country will be doing their 67 Minutes in celebration of Mandela Day.

Over the years, the Newcastle Advertiser has extensively covered both private and corporate initiatives on this day.

Under the banner of #CaxtonCares, the Newcastle Advertiser has committed to ongoing projects throughout the year, teaming up with several organisations to raise both funds and awareness about critical issues.

In a diary meeting with our Editorial and Advertising teams last week, as we were finalising our own plans for July 18, one of our Layout Artists brought up an important point: what about the rest of the year?

She questioned the need to only do a good deed for 67 minutes, once a year, and then stop…

How do you feel about Mandela Day and the 67 Minutes initiative? Do you believe this endeavour is sustainable?
