Couple extends a paw to pets

If anyone would like to make a donation of food, wooden planks for building of enclosures or ice cream tubs for the feeding the animals, the Hendersons would greatly appreciate the help.

Frank and Kotie Henderson, a retired couple who live just outside of town, are assisting the financially disadvantaged with sterilisation and vaccination of pets.

The couple, along with friend, Khalia Schmitting, have helped with the sterilisation of 28 cats and dogs, and have vaccinated and dewormed many more animals over the past three months.

“So many animals are left to suffer, so therefore the survival rate is very low. Often, by the time we reach the animals, they are already dead or dying” said Kotie.

Despite these setbacks, the couple remains strong advocates for sterilisation.

“Sterilisation of dogs and cats is important, in the quest to contain the problem of unwanted, abused and abandoned pets,” added Schmitting.

With the help of a Greyhound sanctuary in Durban, the Hendersons also helped find a home for Dream, a male Greyhound who was found in the Ulundi/Nongoma area in a very poor state. As a result, his life has improved dramatically.

Chained and left on heaps of red sand, Dream was in a terrible state when the Hendersons found him.

If anyone would like to make a donation of food, wooden planks for building of enclosures or ice cream tubs for the feeding the animals, the Hendersons would greatly appreciate the help.
