Mothers honoured at annual function

NAON members said the event was a success and honoured the organisation’s mothers as each received a gift.

The New Age of Newcastle (NAON) recently held its Mother’s Day function.

According to NAON members, the event was a success and honoured the organisation’s mothers as each received a gift.

“We wish to thank the sponsors, donors and well-wishers who made this event possible,” the NAON committee said.

Following the event, office bearers for 2019 were elected at the AGM.

Chairperson of NAON, Danny Bisnath retained his title with Grace Maistry as the Vice Chairperson. Sinkie Ganesh was elected as the Secretary and Rammy Singh was elected as the organisation’s treasurer.

Presently, NAON is involved in the feeding of 30 indigent learners at Suryaville Primary School and Lincoln Heights Secondary School every Thursday.

Sandwiches, tea and coffee are also distributed to patients who collect their medication from the War Room every Tuesday.

The membership of the organisation has grown substantially and members meet on Thursdays to have a scrumptious meal. the women engage in occupational work such as baking and sewing, and the men enjoy playing the card game, thunee.

Educational and informative talks were given by the Legal Aid Board, the KZN Rental Tribunal and others.

The programmes and initiatives are funded purely from donations and contributions made by its generous donors.

Membership is open to all age groups.
