Early in March, the pair released a devotional CD titled ‘Gange’. The CD is a collection of seven devotional songs, with Gange being the title song, produced by San Productions Studio in Durban.

This is how Gange came to life.

“Our fans would always approach us at live shows and ask for a CD to be released and because of their faith and continued support, we managed to do it,” said Mr Premchand.

All the songs were recorded with vocals, backed with the calming sound of the harmonium, while Shriharsh played the thabla.

Mr Premchand is certainly not limited to just the harmonium – his vocals are on point and he plays the keyboard, which derived from the harmonium, exceptionally well, including the jazz drums. Gange is the first of many releases to be made by the duo.

“My latest public demand now is a chutney CD, which is more fun, and made up of folk tales. Thereafter I will most certainly do another religious release,” announced Mr Premchand.

With this said, fans can look forward to a light-hearted CD that will get feet tapping and hands clapping, as well as another CD delving into spirituality.

The Premchand family seems to have followed in their father’s footsteps. Mr Premchand’s second born, Shriharsh features on the newly released CD and plays alongside him at shows.

“So many young people are ashamed of their culture and I hope our CD will encourage them to take an interest in it,” said Shriharsh Premchand hopefully.

While his eldest and youngest daughters also play the harmonium and are learning to perfect it just like their dad has.

“As a five-year old, I recall playing the thabla. I am told it is a talent I inherited from my grandfather, who I unfortunately never got to meet,” shared the Estcourt-born Mr Premchand.

“Music takes me to another world and with everything else I’m involved in, I manage to make the time because I’m passionate about this and everyone knows there’s no compromise,” he shared with a chuckle.

For Mr Premchand, music brings him a sense on serenity, discipline, divinity and accomplishment.

“My talent afforded me a memorable trip to the beautiful Cape Town and what makes this more special is that I was accompanied by a Swami,” recalled Mr Premchand fondly.

Along with this, the talented musician has played at several religious events throughout the country. He added that he is self-taught and developed his skill through the years.

Estcourt’s very own celebrities wish to tremendously thank their family for the support, their huge fan base, the studio they worked with, parents and well-wishers for having faith in their talent.
