Dear Readers,

It was a short week for the Northern KZN editors as we headed off to Johannesburg for the annual Caxton Editor’s Conference last week.

This two-day event brought the Caxton stable of community newspaper editors together to engage in presentations regarding newspaper and layout trends, media law, digital forecasting and feedback from our annual Caxton Excellence Awards judges.

What this means for you, as a loyal reader, is that the Newcastle Advertiser is continuously growing, adapting and improving.

As editors, our job is to curate content you find value in, and we are committed to ensuring quality over quantity.

It was also a busy weekend in Newcastle, and you can enjoy a spread of social gatherings for St Paddy’s Day on our community pages.

We also followed up with local teacher, Sibusiso Thabethe, who we profiled late last year on his journey to win an international ‘Best Teacher’ award. Congratulations on your win Sibusiso!

On a more serious note, the Newcastle Crisis Centre has begun a new programme to help victims of sexual abuse.

There is often a stigma attached to crimes of a sexual nature, and this initiative will provide a platform from which victims can share, and therefore begin the healing process.

The Newcastle Advertiser is still working with the SAPS FCS unit to collect donations for victims of abuse.

Thank you to everyone who has donated to this very worthy cause – look out for more about this #CaxtonCares Campaign in upcoming editions, and help us make a difference in our community.
