Local musician to receive coveted award

He has a selection of albums, sung and recorded by himself

A music producer, director and artist who sings and plays any instrument, Dundee’s Nilan Bhagwandeen is one of the proud recipients of this year’s Artes Awards.

The Artes Awards was established in 1969 and awarded to artists who kept their cultural heritage alive. Nilan is definitely proud of his culture. He has a selection of albums, sung and recorded by himself, ranging from hits of the 80’s to the latest chart toppers.

Nilan sings in both English and Hindi and has stolen many a show with his band, Avantika Sangeeth.

He also has his own professional recording studio where he is hard at work on his latest masterpiece with collaboration from his younger brother on the saxophone.

Nilan will receive his award on March 9 at the annual Big M Entertainment Festival and Artes Awards at Sibiya Izulu Theatre, Durban.
