Courier at the movies – Brimstone

8 out of ten, and easily the best film I have watched this year

This film punches from the hip, and as little as I know of the young Dakota Fanning (our heroine Liz), this is easily her meatiest role I have ever seen her in.

I guess the same could be said of Guy Pearce, who plays the evil and dark Reverend in this spellbinding, triumphant tale of survival and incredibly powerful womanhood.

Our heroine is Liz, who springs from the sometimes astonishingly beautiful wilderness, full of no-nonsense endurance, grit and strength. She is haunted by the vengeful Preacher (Guy Pearce) – a devilishly dark and fearsome zealot, who ultimately becomes her mad nemesis.

Our young heroine is an incredible survivor, even after she gets tangled up in the one disaster after the other, making you wonder if she is ever going to get away.

She is, however, no victim, but a young woman of fearsome strength who responds with the astonishing bravery to claim the better life she and her daughter deserve. The twist in the tale is the Reverend.

Keep track between the different time frames, and you will sit back with a wildly-beating heart as this diabolical plot uncurls itself.

Go watch it. It kept me standing up the whole time. 8 out of ten, and easily the best film I have watched this year.
