So much to do at the Berg Show

Show-goers were treated to a seven-a-side touch rugby game just to loosen up the muscles before the Parlotones took to the stage

The Berg Show saw people from all over Northern KZN converging on the Winterton Country Club.

There was so much to see, do and experience – from horse jumping, meat demonstrations, dung drops, a colour run, a fashion show and a live show with the Parlotones. Children bounced around on the inflatable funfair or ran around playing cowboys and crooks, while teenagers indulged in the variety of delicious foods.

Parents could enjoy a relaxing cold beverage of craft beer while admiring livestock and impressive farming equipment. It was a shopper’s delight, with stalls selling everything from plants, jewellery and clothes to home décor, toys and dirt road clothing.

Show-goers were treated to a seven-a-side touch rugby game just to loosen up the muscles before the Parlotones took to the stage.

The colour run was a huge success, with athletes young and old enjoying the fresh morning air.

The organisers are excited about the massive support from the KZN community. Next year’s Berg Show is set to be even bigger and better!

The Berg Show’s origins go back to the 1970s when an Agricultural Show was held annually at the Bergville Polo Grounds, with evening entertainment taking place in the Old Bergville Farmers’ Hall.

The Old Bergville Show featured mainly livestock and agricultural products, and remained an annual fixture for many years before losing momentum. The Winterton area also had a show, with the last show being held in the 1990s.

In 2011, a group of young farmers and businessmen from the Bergville and Winterton area decided to revive the idea of an agricultural show in the area and incorporate the entire ‘Berg’ farming and business community in one show.

The 2011 Berg Show was an outstanding success, attracting people from Ladysmith, Estcourt and as far afield as Newcastle and the Midlands. Over 2000 people visited the show grounds on the Saturday.

This year was the seventh show, with over 3000 people coming through the gates over the weekend. The show was sold out for the Parlotones, and the Mwah girls entertaining the crowd on Friday evening.
