An invitation to attend Sri Krishna Ashtami Celebrations

The daily programme will include kirtans, bhajans, Gita recitals, discourses, DVDs, arati, havan and pushpanjali

The Ramakrishna Centre of South Africa, Ladysmith Sub-Centre, will be observing Sri Krishna Ashtami Celebrations from Tuesday, August 8, to Tuesday, August 15.

The Bhagavad Gita, popularly known as the Gita, is one of the outstanding religious classics of the world. Hindus, irrespective of their sects and denominations, cherish great reverence for this book.

A ceremonial reading of the book, or even a part thereof, is believed to confer great religious merit.

The book itself, comprising 18 chapters, forms an integral part of a much bigger work, the great epic Mahabharata. It is a poetical work in the form of a dialogue between Sri Krishna and Arjuna on the battlefield of Kurukshetra.

The setting of the battlefield contributes a dramatic element to the book and relates religion to the realities of life.

The Bhagavad Gita is one of the most translated religious classics of the world. The beauty and the sublimity of the work, its eternal relevance to the problem of human life and its universal approach that helps us view the whole of creation as one, may have prompted scholars to undertake the task of translating it as a labour of love.

We pray you will be able to join us in this most auspicious celebration and worship of Lord Krishna.

Date: August 8 to 15.

Time: 6.30pm to 7.30pm daily.

Venue: Sri Ramakrishna Shrine in Agra Road.

Sri Krishna Janmashtami will take place on Thursday, August 15. The first session will be from 6pm to 8pm and the second session from 8.30pm till past midnight.

The daily programme will include kirtans, bhajans, Gita recitals, discourses, DVDs, arati, havan and pushpanjali.

All are welcome to attend.

“Where the Gita is read, there help comes quickly, where the Gita is inquired into, chanted, taught or listened to, O Earth, there undoubtedly and unfailing do I myself reside” – Gita Mahatmyam
