For parents, it’s usual to separate work and private lives.

However, sometimes its invariable that one day you’ll have to bring your child to work.

Maybe they’re sick or the babysitter is away.

Whichever way, here are some top tips to keep your child entertained at work, instead of getting you fired.

Make a creative kit

Just like a first aid kit is always a good idea, so is an entertainment kit for ‘just in cases’.

Choose a bright container or customise it for your child.

You can fill the kit box with spare paper and crayons, glue sticks, paint and even small puzzles.

It’s certain to keep little ones busy for at least a while.

Give them incentives

Children get bored REALLY easily.

Sometimes all they need is focus, so provide your child with some reward for behaving well.

Maybe you’ll take them out for supper or buy that toy they saw on television.

The child is likely to be more patient knowing there’s something they get in return.

It needs to be emphasised that this is NOT a way to bribe your child into being good.

Be mobile

If you’re able to work on the go, it can help you when the children are at work with you.

You can set yourself up somewhere pleasant like a library or park.

While you get down to the hard graft, your child can get stuck into a book or burn off that excess energy on the merry-go-round.

It’s a win-win for all parties involved.
