#FreshTake: We dine together

When the lunchtime bell rings and learners split up into their groups for lunch, imagine how many children actually want to be included, but aren't, so they sit alone and feel completely left out?

I recently read of an overseas school that have set up a club called “We Dine Together” to make sure lonely school children don’t eat alone at lunchtime, or break time, as we know it here.

The learner who started the club was one of those who felt isolated when he arrived at school, and although he’s now a senior, he’s never forgotten the days of being alone at lunchtime.

His aim is to ensure that no other student goes through the same thing. I absolutely love the idea. What do you think of this?

Some of you might know this feeling all too well. Parents, guardians and even older sibling take for granted that the school-goers in the family spend their lunch break with friends. Make it your duty to ask your child who he or she dines with.

If you are reading this and you have a huge social circle, during break walk over to that fellow school mate and invite them to meet your friends or just strike up a conversation with them daily.
