Happy new beginning for abandoned pug – Vryheid community comes to the rescue

Vryheiders can safely consider themselves a community of greatness, with Ghandi's sentiments in mind, when one considers the swift adoption of the abandoned pug that took place less than 24 hours after his plight was published on our website.

IT was Mahatma Ghandi who said, “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated.”

Vryheiders can safely consider themselves a community of greatness, with Ghandi’s sentiments in mind, when one considers the swift adoption of the abandoned pug that took place less than 24 hours after his plight was published on our website.

That’s right, folks – The purebred black pug who was deserted by his previous owner and rescued by Vryheid SPCA found his way into the hearts of the community and, in the process, has been adopted.

“The calls have been coming in all morning,” stated Vryheid SPCA’s Babsie Slabbert, gleefully. “Thank you, Vryheid. He has found a home…”

Babsie appeared visibly saddened yesterday when speaking of the pug’s imminent fate of being put down if he was not adopted. Today she has a reason to smile.

“Thank you, Vryheid and all who expressed an interest in this animal’s wellbeing,” stated Stephan Vickers. “We are very happy that he has found a home. Please visit us at Vryheid SPCA, as there are many other animals who need good homes too.”
