Has Christmas become just another commercialised holiday?

Caught up with preparations for the festive season, we sometimes forget the presents, extravagant meals and fine clothes cost a lot money, and this period is a great boost for the economy.

Kevin Moodley: “I feel that Christmas used to be a very sacred holiday, but now it has become commercialised. People spend a lot of money to buy nice things and have fun, when actually it is supposed to be about spending quality time with family.”

Peter Fouché: “I don’t think it is a commercialised holiday, but I do feel it has become very expensive, and the true meaning of of Christmas has been lost somewhere along the way.”

Laurika Theunissen: “I think the essence of Christmas has been lost and people spend too much money during the festive season because things are too expensive. I don’t think it is commercialised per sé, but it is extremely costly.”
