With heads bowed to the new game craze, Team Instinct and Team Mystic capture Pokémon in the parking area of the Newcastle swimming pool

Stefan Theunnisen, from Team Mystic, explained their weekend activities around town:

“Before we arrived at the pool parking area on Saturday morning,  we were at the cemetery with a lure (there is a ‘Pokéstop’ at the entrance), but didn’t catch anything interesting besides a couple of Ratata and Pidgey’s. We claimed a gym while there too, then we drove to the swimming pool. There, we saw a Meowth and captured a few more critters. Then we went to battle and regained control of gym at the nearby post office. We wanted to go on a similar route on Sunday evening to catch some night Pokémon, but the servers were down.”

The smart phone game launched recently, and uses a concept similar to an augmented reality application, where the game overlays a heavily modified version of Google maps.

The player uses the new interface to hunt down Pokémon in the real world and visit places of interest around the town to train up the Pokémon critters players have captured.
