Shahiel Chunder took ownership of the very first Ford Mustang 5.0 V8 GT to come to Vryheid, making local car sales history at Ritchie Ford this month.
The Dundee businessman and car enthusiast said he was proud to own a car with iconic status and describes the Ford Mustang as his dream car.
Dealer principal at Ritchie Ford, Stefan Kruger, said that this was the first time that the Mustang model was available for sale off the floor in South Africa, and only 900 units will be coming to South Africa this year.
“The Mustang is an American icon and a value-for-money sports car. It’s a muscle car with a lightweight body and a big engine that makes a seriously big noise, and that’s what we love most about it… Just the way it sounds!” said Mr Kruger. “There was big excitement at the dealership when the car was delivered here.”
Mr Chunder, who is a fan of the Fast and Furious movies, says he has always had a passion for cars.
“My first experience with a Ford Mustang in reality was when I visited the United States in March. It’s a good-looking, powerful car that I knew I had to have, and it’s my first muscle car.”
Mr Chunder admits that there is a downside to owning the iconic ‘pony-car’. Everywhere he goes, people stop him to take photos of the car.
The popular Ford Mustang has featured in movies such as ‘Need for Speed’, ‘Fast and Furious 6’, ‘Transformers’, ‘Wanted’ and ‘I am Legend’, among others.
