COUNTDOWN: 10 of the worst Christmas gifts you can give or receive

You will want to see number one...

It’s that time of year again, where festive cheer is spread. What better way to thank that friend who covered for you when you were running late, or just spoiling your better half with a surprise gift?

There’s nothing worse than opening a gift and not knowing how to react because it wasn’t exactly what you expected.

Let’s countdown the top 10 worst Christmas gifts.

You will want to see what made number one.

10. Food related gifts

Extra crispy and as a side, however you prefer, most of us enjoy bacon. Although it does come across as creepy when you take out your bacon wallet at the pay point. Men, you may think this is cool, but it’s not. #awkward

9. Kitchen appliances and/or gadgets

Anything related to cooking, unless it was specifically requested, is not an acceptable gift, especially if your better half is a housewife, the last thing she needs is a reminder of her chores in the form of any kitchen appliance.

8. Inappropriate gifts

No matter what type of relationship you share with your boss or your bff, inappropriate gifts may seem as if they are hilarious to you, but on the contrary they can come across as offensive or just downright disgusting. Steer clear from these gifts.

7. Gifts that are not age appropriate

Need I say more?

6. Cheesy gifts

We all enjoy a little dose of irony once in a while, but you don’t want to give a gift that will remind the recipient of your dry sense of humour. After the novelty of the gift wears out, it’s not ironic anymore, just plain cheesy.

5. Gifts related to peoples’ bad habits

There’s nothing worse than receiving a gift that constantly reminds you of your bad habit. This may be therapeutic to some, but it is offensive and the quickest way to insult any person.

4. Christmas themed gifts

The festive season has arrived, with decorations in stores, on streetlights, in our homes and on the radio. This all contributes to the festive ambiance, but receiving gifts that are Christmas themed is a big no-no. These gifts can therefore only be used on Christmas and at no other time.

3. The dreaded Christmas socks

It’s always a good gesture to gift someone with items of clothing, especially when it has some significance behind it, e.g. a tie for a corporate man. Gifting a person with colourful socks that can only be worn once, is as useless as buying a hairbrush for a bald person.

2. Underwear

This item should never be a Christmas gift. #EnoughSaid

1. Gifts from your pets

Not by far the worst gift, but not ideal either. We love our pets nonetheless!
