Gearing up for ultra-marathon

The starter’s gun will go off at 6am on Saturday morning...

With months of preparation having gone into the build-up to this year’s Arthur Cresswell 52km ultra-marathon, runners, organisers, sponsors and the local community in general is relishing the event taking place on Saturday, April 11, and all is perfectly poised for the road running showcase to be another memorable one for all.

When the starter’s gun goes off at 6am on Saturday morning, hundreds of runners will brave the chilly early-morning air as they set off from Bergville Farmers Hall and make their way across the breathtakingly scenic 52km journey towards the finish line at the Ladysmith Indoor Sports Complex.

At 7am, many running enthusiasts set off from the Sports Complex as the N3 Toll Concession 21km Half-Marathon also gets underway, offering those without the hours of training, fitness or desire to take part in the marathon to still be an integral part of the spectacle.

So, whether you’re an ultra marathon runner or tackling the half-marathon or merely a fun runner doing your bit for the Khanyisile Foundation, it’s going to be a great event.

Not forgetting the spectators who will be out on the road…
