Blood donors urged to give the ‘gift of life’ this festive season

It's gift-giving season, so why not give (and receive) the best gift of all

The South African National Blood Service (SANBS) has a great surprise for blood donors in Ladysmith. For the period November 20 till January 20, 2015, every person who donates blood will receive a special ‘mystery’ gift as their way of saying thank you. November marks the start of a busy period, as the demand for blood increases during the festive season.

Arthur Potgieter, a car guard at San Marco Centre, made a special contribution on Tuesday when he donated his 180th unit of O-negative blood. His loyalty and dedication as a blood donor is proved by his ongoing support to Ladysmith SANBS. Mr Potgieter enjoyed a Coke while donating, to ensure that his energy levels remained high during the heat. He took a cup of coffee as a takeaway treat. This is his usual order when he comes in to donate blood every two months.

The SANBS would like to thank ABI for their monthly Coca-Cola donation to the Blood Bank. They would also like to thank all their donors for their continued support during the year and look forward to welcoming your generous contributions next year.
