THIS Friday and Saturday, Vryheid’s biggest most exciting community event takes place. It is the Lions Mayfair, and once again it will take place at Cecil Emmett Park. Once again, there will be scores of stalls and flea market stalls both outside and in Cecil Emmett Hall, with lots of things to buy, a selection of food stalls to satisfy any appetite, and all the excitement of various rides at the fun fair. In addition, this year the Lions have brought you the 5D Motion Cinema, the only one on wheels in the country. This air-conditioned 5D simulator has 60 five minute movies to choose from, seats six people at a time and is operated manually. It is not like the 4D ones – it has snow bubbles, mist, air, light etc, and there are various movies to choose from – fast, scary etc. You also wear 3D or 5D glasses. Other new attractions this year is the inflatable Haunted House, paintball target shooting and for the brave and adventurous the bungee bounce which will give you a whole new view of Cecil Emmett from high up in the air. Last year Circus Balloon, the inflatable circus proved very popular with its programme including funny clowns, acrobatics, juggling and lots more, especially appealing to the children. It’s back this year by popular demand with shows at various times on both days. In the past, the Lions Club of Vryheid’s Mayfair has received huge support from the community, and this has allowed the Lions to plough the proceeds back into the community with support for various charities. That is where all proceeds go, back to the community, because none of the Lions receive salaries or any rewards for bringing you the Mayfair, they are all volunteers. Parking is provided on the cricket field at Cecil Emmett. Entrance to the Mayfair costs R10 for children and R20 for adults.
