A local cynic remarked last Friday that elections in South Africa should be held once a year as that is the only way we can get new houses, get the roads tarred and generally feel looked after by the powers that be.

With the flurry of activity here with MECs and Premiers racing in and out, unveiling housing projects and other long-awaited promises, it is easy to be cynical.

On the other hand those who have been waiting for new homes could not careless from whom or where these came from.  When you have nothing just a little is a lot.

Hopefully the election will jolt all parties into walk their talks and not to treat their voters with disrespect.
