Extreme weather no damper on school tennis tournament

The Vryheid Tennis Championship is a popular activity for the junior tennis players

The Vryheid Tennis Championship is a popular activity for the junior tennis players in Vryheid.
This year, the event took place on October 14.
All the players were very enthusiastic but in the end, the following winners were congratulated: Keegan Gevers, Muhammad Khan and Ethan Watson.
Winning girls were Megan Gevers, Anjé Erasmus and Ashley Loch.
The saying goes ‘Africa is not for sissies!’
Taking the weather pattern into account, players from Lüneburg, Wittenberg and Michaelis had to endure a very hot Monday, with temperatures suddenly plummeting by the Tuesday.
Despite the drizzle, it was decided the German Schools Tennis Tournament on October 22 would go ahead. Every player defended his or her position and had to play two singles, two doubles and two mixed doubles matches respectively. Although chilly with occasional rain, matches could luckily continue and the tournament was completed in a positive spirit.
Michaelis Private School is so proud of its players.
The girls won the tournament for the fifth time, the boys won for the third time and the school won the tournament for the fourth time.
“Well done players and always keep on practicing. Wittenberg hosted the tournament and we thank them for all the preparations and organising. Thank you to the Vryheid Lawn Tennis Club for the use of the tennis courts and a special thank you to our parents who supported their children throughout the tennis season!”
