Karate kids kick their way to glory

Karate students from different parts of KZN were part of the tournament

The weekend of April 15 was a memorable one for all karate students residing in Estcourt.

They were part of a karate tournament that was held at the Forderville Hall. The event started at 09:00 and finished at about 17:00. It was hosted by uMtshezi Warrior Dojo, which is led by Senpai Smanga Dubazane (chairperson of karate under the Uthukela District for Kyokushinkaikan style).

The attendees were grateful for the presence of Sinodumo Gcwensa from the Department of Sport & Recreation.

Karatekas (karate students) from Estcourt, Wembezi Township, Ntabamhlophe, Umgungundlovu and Amajuba took part and performed admirably during the event. Veterans from different karate organisations were also part of the event in order to bear witness and encourage the young athletes who were performing.

“The performance of uMtshezi Warrior Dojo / Uthukela District athletes was amazing and we are now reaping what has been instilled in our athletes in terms of discipline, physical fitness and mental training. There is a glimmer of hope that one day, karate in the Uthukela District will be one of the sporting codes that is given full attention and assistance,” said Senpai Dubazane.

Lindokuhle Mpi was victorious in the under 17 division for juniors.

Males and females participated in various divisions, designed to cater for age and weight. “We can proudly say that Uthukela performed very well under uMtshezi Warrior Dojo.

“Senpai Lindokuhle Mpi and Soyama Mabaso did very well in their respective divisions. We would like to thank the Department of Sport & Recreation for being a main sponsor for the event,” added Dubazane.

Those who are interested in karate training are encouraged to contact Senpai Smanga Dubazane on 079 371 3505 for further details.
