Cricket season ends on a high note
Aster Cricket Club won the T10 Round Robin Tournament
From March 17-19 Umtshezi Cricket Association (UCA) hosted its annual T10 Round Robin Tournament, which marks the end of the cricketing season. It was a great weekend of cricket capped off with two wonderful displays of cricket in the semi-final and final on Sunday afternoon.
The final was played between Aster Cricket Club and Farhaan Hardware. Aster CC batted first and scored a mammoth 128 runs in their 10 overs with no wickets lost. Muneer Sheik, Scelo Mlaba and Prenay Kewalpersad all scored 26 runs before retiring.
Farhaan Hardware only managed to score 59 runs in their 10 overs with five wickets down. This was due to the amazing effort put in by the Aster players to ensure that they lift the trophy at the end of the evening. Best batsman of the tournament and most sixes of the tournament was Munir from United CC (61 runs).
Best bowler of the tournament was Mohammed Ali from Farhaan Hardware (five wickets for 16 runs). Best catch of the tournament went to Asif from Farhaan Hardware and the best player of the tournament, who received the Lloyd Ramdeen Memorial Trophy, was Mohammed Ali from Farhaan Hardware (46 runs and five wickets).
Once the round robin is over UCA also hosts in awards presentation for the seasons results for league winners and best performers of the season.
Inaugural Youth League: Winners – Aster Cricket Club. Best Batsman – Azhar Mahmoud (Aster CC). Best Bowler – Luseko (Aster CC).
50 over league winners – United Cricket Club. Best batsman – Suvedh Ramprith (Colita Cricket Club) – 93 runs. Best Bowler – Scelo Mlaba (Aster Cricket Club) – six wickets for 60 runs.
T20 Day league winners – United Cricket Club. Best batsman – Munir (United Cricket Club) – 170 runs. Best Bowler – Trivashin Sewraj (Colita Cricket Club) – 10 wickets for 92 runs.
T20 Night League winners: Farhaan Hardware. Best batsman – Aziz (Farhaan Hardware) – 194 runs. Best Bowler – Suvedh Ramprith (Colita Cricket Club) – 20 wickets for 92 runs.
Player of the season 2022/23 – Suvedh Ramprith (Colita Cricket Club) – 266 runs and 30 wickets.
