Muddy waters prove challenging for anglers

A day at the dam proves fruitful for Umtshezi Angling Club

Umtshezi Angling Club (UAC) members were out early to cast in their lines on February 19 at the second league outing of the year.
Wagendrift Dam’s water level is a whopping 104% after the recent rains in the catchment area.

Not expecting too many fish on the day due to muddy waters and cooler water temperatures, the anglers nevertheless forged ahead and were treated to some ‘screaming reels’.

“The day was also a test for the upcoming competition that will be hosted by UAC on March 12. We know the dam levels may still be high for the competition and therefore we want to make sure that the anglers who enter have a good chance of catching some nice-sized carp (the target species) on the day,” said chairperson Avanash Lakhan.

It was a pleasant day, with weather conditions changing for the better, but with only a few fish caught.

The top spots went to: first place – tie between Matteo and Mickey on eight points each; second – Anesh on seven points; third – tie between Ajay and Deepak on two points each.
